Last month, HTC released the J Butterfly smartphone for the Japanese telecom operator KDDI. Now, the company has unveiled the same device for Asian markets as the HTC Butterfly 2. The phone resembles the HTC One (M8) (review) in terms of design and shares features with the plastic-clad One (E8).

The Butterfly 2 is IPX5, IPX7 and IP5X certified for water and dust resistance. The phone is also equipped with 4G LTE connectivity, but support will be available in select markets only.
The HTC Butterfly 2 features a 5-inch display with full HD resolution and runs Android 4.4 KitKat with HTC's Sense 6 UI. Under the hood ticks a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.5GHz, along with 2GB of RAM. The device will be available in two memory variants – 16GB and 32GB, both with a microSD card slot that can increase storage by an additional 128GB.

Camera wise, the Butterfly 2 offers a 13MP rear shooter with a BSI Sensor, and the same depth sensor available on the One (M8). There is also a 5MP front snapper with a BSI sensor for selfies and video calling. Besides 4G LTE, the handset offers 3G, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 with aptX, Wi-Fi 802.11 (2.4 & 5GHz), DLNA, HTC Connect, micro-USB 2.0 and Infrared.
HTC has also loaded the Butterfly 2 with BoomSound dual front stereo speakers with JBL LiveStage, which offer 25 percent louder audio output than the HTC One.
The smartphone will first go on sale in the company’s home market beginning September 2nd, followed by launches in Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.
